Welcome to Hoku'Ea Hale, a very private oceanfront residence featuring spectacular ocean views, ocean entry and abundance of covered outdoor living space. Every room opens to the outdoor ocean, where you'll experience tropical paradise and unparalleled views of the Pacific. Named for the property's exquisite sea life Turtle art entry gate; Hoku'Ea features beachfront Jacuzzi spa, wading pools, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, outdoor seaview hot/cold shower, 1 a/c unit and accommodates up to 9 guests
All rooms open up to unobstructed ocean views with the house on a jutting point allowing you to experience to the fullest the natural beauty of Hawai'i and watching spectacular sunsets each evening over the Pacific from the comfort of your own lanai. From the moment you enter, you'll notice the expansive 750 ft2 covered oceanfront lanai, an ideal location to enjoy a delicious cup of Kona coffee while watching Whales and Spinner Dolphins. Hoku'Ea Hale is known as one of the best locations in Kona because of its backyard ocean entry access to snorkeling, surfing, paddle-boarding, and swimming. Surf lessons by professionals are offered right by the house at the best learning surfing spot on the island. It's also an ideal location to experience sea life in your backyard of whales, sea turtles, fish and dolphins in abundance. A resident turtle lives in one of the many wading pools on the beach in front of the house.
We additionally supply one air conditioner 6000 BTU fixed non-stationary unit in the (living/kitchen/TV) room. This a/c unit is in addition to the fixed ceiling fans in every room in the house including one on the lanai, and the many mobile fans. The prevailing trade winds from the west over the ocean and the cool night mountain breezes from the east blow through the house for natural cooling as well. The jacuzzi we have at 102+ degrees. Our pool service guy comes and services the hot tub unswervingly on a regular basis every Friday and can accommodate any guests desires.
Inside Hoku'Ea Hale, you'll find high open beam ceilings and plenty of comfortable seating in the living room, which makes the perfect place to put your feet up and take in the beauty of the Pacific. The newly remodeled kitchen features ocean views from every angle. Fully stocked with all of the culinary essentials, this space features a large island with additional seating for your guests, allowing you to converse with friends and family while preparing a delicious meal. Enjoy the upgraded finishes of the first-floor bathroom which is conveniently situated near the kitchen and living areas. A bonus room near the kitchen features lanai and ocean views and is equipped with a large, flat-screen TV and high-speed internet connection. This space has a sleeper sofa as well as additional seating, perfect for accommodating additional guests. The lanai is furnished with a large dining room table and features unbelievable views.
Located on the ground level is the primary bedroom, which is furnished with a new king-sized bed. An en-suite bathroom with fluffy cotton towels, dual sinks, and walk-in shower provide all of the space and comfort you need. Enjoy accessing the outdoors right from your posh primary suite, which has doors that open right onto the oceanside lanai. The prevailing trade winds from the west over the ocean and the night mountain breezes from the east blow through the house for natural cooling as this house does not have central a/c; but we do supply one air conditioner 6000 BTU non-stationary unit in the (living/kitchen/TV) room.
Upstairs you'll find two bedrooms, both with flat screen TVs and direct ocean views. The south bedroom features festive, island-inspired décor, a king-sized bed and stunning views of Kahalu'u Bay. Watch the surfers and snorkelers from the comfort of your room! The north wing of the home features an additional room furnished with two queen-sized beds. Just stayed in this beautiful home for 3 weeks with my family. We spend a lot of time in Hawaii on different islands, usually for extended stays of 3-4 weeks....this was the best house for sunsets we have ever had and the location directly on the ocean allowed us to listen to the water crashing all night on the lava rock. We had dinner every night on the lanai and watched the sunsets. Hot tub was a big plus.
The house is in a perfect location...there are a couple of nice beaches very close with surfing available, downtown is a 5 minute drive, golf course is within a couple of miles. There is a large supermarket within a mile. Easy access to other beaches if you want to explore by car. You can snorkel right out back of the house if you feel comfortable getting in the water off the lava rock. My son did some spear fishing out there as well.
House was clean, well-kept. There is no AC (other than a single unit in main living area which we rarely turned on), but most nights were very tolerable with windows open and fans on. Nice breezes off the water.
Property management company was very responsive with periodic texting to check in and reminders to take out the trash. The only maintenance issue we had was the outdoor grill not working, but they replaced it the next day.
My only complaint was that there was only a single beach chair available.
We’d definitely recommend this house.

This is great house to rent for your trip. The views from the porch are breathtaking. We saw dolphins and multiple fish. The house is in a great location. Loved that there was a grocery store right up the road. There is a harbor 5minutes away to go see the manta rays at night and snorkeling tours. Downtown Kona is 15min away. The house has beach towels, ice chest, beach chairs, snorkeling mask and boards. No need to rent any beach materials. Kitchen has all the dishes you need and cooking supplies. Bbq works great also. You can’t beat the view eating outside at the table.

We had a lovely time at this beautiful beachfront home. The view is amazing. We enjoyed every evening on the lanai watching the sunset. There is plenty of equipment (umbrellas, boogie boards, etc) for enjoying a trip to the beach. There is some snorkel gear as well, and my son really enjoyed some excellent fishing right off the rocks behind the house. The kitchen is well-provisioned and the grill is high quality.
My only complaint is a mismatch between property description and reality when it came to air conditioning. It’s Hawaii, and there are nice cross-breezes, so I’d have most likely stayed here even if the listing were accurate in saying that there is no AC. But the VRBO site does say that AC is one of the amenities for this property. So when we arrived and were told “you know there’s no AC, right? Sometimes people are surprised by that” it was in fact a surprise. Certainly that wouldnt impact our enjoyment of the vacation or this wonderful property. We went and bought a few fans (because it was actually pretty hot) and it was just fine. But the listing should be updated to reflect no AC. Otherwise everything was great. Location is very convenient. We would love to stay here again.

Unfortunately, on some third-party booking platforms such as VRBO, amenities can occasionally be displayed or categorized differently from the detailed information we provide in the listing. We certainly understand how seeing “AC” displayed as an amenity could have caused confusion, and we appreciate you bringing that to our attention so we can review how it is appearing on the platform.
